Become An Elected Representative of the Democratic Party
Your envelope from the Elections Division includes a green ballot entitled “Official Biennial Primary Nominating Ballot”. If you would like to participate in shaping the direction of the Democratic Party, this is your opportunity.

If you are a registered Democrat, you can run for a position in your precinct or an adjacent precinct. You might consider running in an adjacent precinct if it has no canidates and your precinct already has a candidate. The elections office can tell you which precincts are adjacent, or you can research this online at the Clatsop County web site.

If you did not file for office earlier this year and your name is not listed, then you need to do a little campaigning. You must receive three votes to be eligible for office, after which whoever receives the majority is elected.

To run as a write in candidate, have those voting for you write in the precinct number and your full name.

Only elected precinct committeepersons are eligible to vote in the November reorganization when new officers are selected.
You can always be appointed to office after the reorganization meeting.

NOTE: you vote for only precinct persons in your precinct – not in all precincts. You can find your precinct number printed on the envelope to the left of your name.

Clatsop
County precinct committeepersons demonstrated last month at the state platform convention that change can happen thru the party. With Democrats having a majority in both legislative houses, your great ideas can be turned into action.

If you need any help with the process, please call Larry Taylor at 971-235-7164.

Next CCDCC Meeting
The next meeting of the Clatsop County Democrats will move out one day to Tuesday, May 27, due to the Memorial Day holiday. Please adjust your calendars. The location and time remains the same – the Port of Astoria Commissioners Room at 6:30 PM, in Astoria.

Delegate Selection Process for the Democratic National Convention
The great National Delegate selection process is coming to Oregon and you can participate!
However, you will need to register by 5:00 PM, May 22.

The following three options are available to you:
1) you can register to vote for National Delegates for the First Congressional District on June 7.
2) you can register to be a delegate to the State convention on June 21, where additional delegates will be chosen.
3) You can register to be a National delegate

One form is used for all registration purposes. Part of registering is pledging your vote to one of the two candidates. Each convention will split into two caucuses, one for each candidate.

Locations for the events are still being determined, but will most likely be in eastern Washington county.

Read all about the process, and download the application form at www.DPO.org, or by clicking HERE.

Return Email Addresses
If you received a list of Democrats in your precinct that wished to receive this newsletter, please contact them and record their email addresses, and then forward them to lawrence_d_taylor@yahoo.com. This is the most inexpensive way to keep the Democrats of Clatsop County connected.
